Fall Harvest Bridal Shower

Fall Harvest Bridal Shower: Create beautiful centerpiece for your next event using nature as your inspiration! #MatlackFlorist

This Fall Harvest Bridal Shower was held for our very own favorite administrative assistant here at Matlack Florist, Stephanie!  After having worked with Stephanie for a year and a half at the shop, I was honored when she asked me to be a part of her bridal party, and so excited to plan a bridal shower with my fellow bridesmaids!

Here is Stephanie in her office hard at work:

Fall In Love Ladder: This ladder was created using a decorative ladder from home festively adorned with pennants and faux fall leaves. The pennants were created from card stock and stickers, and attached to the ladder using wash tape. #MatlackFlorist

To celebrate this autumn-loving bride-to-be, we planned a shower to fit the season with a Fall Harvest theme.  We used a lot of our own personal items from home and added festive touches of fall to each item for the shower!

This miniature-sized ladder (right) was decorated using cardstock cut into pennant shapes (which were attached to the ladder using decorative washi tape), letter-shaped stickers to read “Fall in Love” and finished off with autumn leaves!

The bridal shower umbrella (below) was decorated with faux fall leaves as well to incorporate it into the theme!

Dress up a bridal umbrella to fit your theme! We added faux fall leaves to this umbrella to give it a festive autumn feel. #MatlackFlorist

Mums the Word…

If you’re looking to add some fall flavor to your garden this season, there’s nothing that will do the job better than a mum plant!  If you want to plant these blooming beauties so that they come back for you year after year, follow the instructions below, provided by Matlack Florist’s nursery manager, Penny.

How To Plant and Care For Mums #MatlackFlorist

Mum Planting Instructions and Care

  1. Choose a location outdoors for planting. Generally, a well-drained area that receives full sun or bright, partial shade is best. A protected area away from strong winter winds will help the plant to “winter-over” much easier.
  2. Remove the plant from the pot and place it in a hole no deeper than it’s original pot. Fill the hole with soil, forming a “saucer-like” lip at the base of the plant to prevent water run-off.
  3. After the plant has blossomed, cut the entire plant back to 6″ from the ground level. Mulch over with leaves to protect the mum from winter damage.
  4. Remove the mulch in the spring and the plant should begin to sprout.
  5. In June, cut the mum back to 1/3 of its size and fertilize with a general-purpose fertilizer. The mum will flower in the fall.
  6. To prevent the mum from growing too tall and spindly, cut it back again in mid-July up to 1/3 of its size.
So now that you have the know-how, get outside, plant some mums, and enjoy this beautiful fall weather while it lasts!

Matlack’s Pumpkin Stacks

Pumpkin Stacks #MatlackFlorist

Our outdoor nursery is overflowing with fall harvest decor! We are especially excited about all of the new varieties of pumpkins that we ordered in this year!  So much so that we decided to get a little creative with them!

Pumpkin stacking has been sweeping the Pinterest world, and we just had to get in on the fun!  So each of our designers took part in putting their own creative spin on the trend.

The Power of Pink

Last October, we debuted our “Power of Pink” feature designed to raise awareness and funds to support Breast Cancer research, treatment and prevention.  We personally love the feminine array of roses, lilies, gerbera daisies, stock, alstroemeria, all in our favorite pink tones!  For every “Power of Pink” order we receive, Matlack Florist donates 20% of the retail price to local programs that support this cause.

This October, we would again like to recognize those that fight everyday to beat this deadly disease, and their family members and loved ones that support them.  Many of us have been personally touched by breast cancer, and we like to encourage everyone to get involved, not only in October, but throughout the year!

If you’d like to send flowers to someone you know while contributing to a good cause, order a “Power of Pink” floral gift today by going to our website here, or calling us at 610-431-3077.

Staff Favorites: Fall Features

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”   Albert Camus

Favorite Fall Features #MatlackFlorist

Autumn officially arrives today!   However, the signs of fall have already been slowly slinking in.  There is a crisp chill in the morning air.  The days are becoming shorter.  We find ourselves throwing an extra blanket on the bed at night.  The leaves are just beginning to change, showing the rich reds, oranges and yellows of fall.  Harvest festivals abound.  What a great time of year!

Just as Mother Nature has begun her transition, we too here at Matlack Florist have seen the signs of the changing season.  Our morning flower deliveries are showing less in the way of summer colors and more of the vibrant jewel tones of fall.  And our featured floral arrangements have been updated accordingly to reflect nature’s path.

To kick off the fall season, we thought we would share some of our staff’s own favorite arrangements!!
